Special Immigrant Juvenile Status

Special Immigrant Juvenile Status is a legal status available to minors who have been abused, neglected or abandoned by one or both parents. A Special Immigrant Juvenile is an immigrant in the U.S. who has been declared dependent on a juvenile court located in the U.S.  The individual is someone whom the court has legally committed to, or placed under the custody of, an individual or entity appointed by a state or juvenile court located in the U.S., where it has been determined that reunification with one or both parents is not viable due to abuse, neglect, abandonment, or similar basis found in state law.

The Law Office of Maureen McSorley has been handling special immigrant juvenile cases for more than 20 years now. We are skilled in the preparation of guardianships, adoptions and family-law cases that form the basis for these orders.
